They display works by Los Angeles-based artists. "Many works have been made specifically for this exhibition, while others are being shown in New York for the first time". You can spot there works by Chris Burden, Frank Gehry, Piero Golia, Mark Grotjahn, Thomas Houseago, Alex Israel, Mike Kelley, Nancy Rubins, Sterling Ruby, Ed Ruscha, Robert Therrien, Jeff Wall, Mary Weatherford, and Jonas Wood.
I display here my favorites from this exhibition, a very subjective selection as usual. Above you can see a large sized mural by Sterling Ruby. He is one of the super stars in the contemporary art scene. According to Wikipedia his work reflects "diverse range of sources and influences including aberrant psychologies (particularly schizophrenia and paranoia), urban gangs and graffiti, hip-hop culture, craft, punk, masculinity, violence, public art, prisons, globalization, American domination and decline, waste and consumption" (wikipedia).
Above a painting by Mark Grotjahn: Untitled (Turkish Forest V Face 43.94) (2012).
Above one of Chris Burden’s "Three Ghost Ships" (1991. The art work - never before exhibited in New York—is a set of full-size sailboats, fitted with solar panels and global satellite software for unmanned navigation.
Above more pieces from the exhibition.
To be continued.
