Traveling: A Walk In EUR Rome

(Drivebycuriosity) - Today my wife and I left EUR Rome, where we had stayed 6 nights, and went to another district of the Italian capital. Before we took the subway we had a last walk, where we discovered aspects of the district we hadn`t seen before.

I reported before that EUR is an out-of-town business & residential district (satellite town) build between 1940 and 1960 (driveby ). I am impressed by the districts` generous design, the futuristic architecture and the geometric structures. The structure and the lavish use of space remind me of Los Angeles.

EUR`s architecture is influenced by ancient Rome but also by the Bauhaus style.

Many buildings are piece of modern art which makes EUR as a museum for architecture & design. Above the building of Poste Italiano.

They are till constructing a new congress center, a futuristic glass cube with strange interior which looks in the night like a stranded spaceship.

Above another modern building.

Rome is the home of the Pope, there has to be a stylish basilica as well.

But there is also a shopping area

Fortunately the is a subway line which connects EUR to other parts of Rome.

To be continued.
