Contemporary Art: A Visit @ MAXXI Rome

(Drivebycuriosity) - Rome has countless historical gems. But the eternal city is also modern and offers some contemporary art shows. Last Saturday we visited MAXXI, the Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo (National Museum of the 21st Century Arts maxtxi ).

The building was designed by Zaha Hadid, who was the winner of an international design competition. The late Iraqi architect is very famous and has won many awards, but unfortunately not many of her designs got realized. Apparently her ideas were to unconventional. One reason more to visit MAXXI.

The architecture and design works well together with the displayed paintings, installations and sculptures and is the best part of the museum. Above some pics from the entrance hall which looks like a space ship.

Happy Marriage Of Color & Design

Above one of the wonderful corridors - a happy marriage of color & design.

What a gorgeous staircase

The windows are part of the show.

More design gems

Some art work also caught my eyes. Above you can see "Bronzefrau" by Thomas Schütte.

In the background hangs "Sternenfall" by Anselm Kiefer.

They had a temporary exhibition called "Internet Art", above some examples. Cool!

To be continued.
