Culture: Visiting The Barberini Gallery Rome

(Drivebycuriosity) - When I visit a city I like to take a look into her art museums. Last Wednesday my wife and I visited the Barberini Gallery, part of the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica (barberini). The museum is located in a palazzo and has a stunning collection.

My favorite is the wonderful "Judith and Holofernes" by Caravaggio. I think this is one of his best works of this genius.

There is another famous Caravaggio painting: "Narcissus"

There are lots of erotic paintings. Above the amazing "La Fornarina" by Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino.

And there is more: "Saint Mary Magdalene Penitent" by Guido Caqgnacci followed by "Female Nude From Behind" by Pierre Subleyras.

"Judith with the Head of Holophernes" by Jan Metsys followed by "Allegory of Divine Wisdom" by Andrea Sacchi (detail).

"Venus playing the Harp" by Giovani Lanfranco followed by "Bathsheba at Her Bath" by Jacopo Zucchi ;"Hercules and Omphale" by Marco Benefial & "La Maddalena" by Francesco Trevisiani (detail).

"The Parcae" by Marco Big.

There are more wonderful paintings: The Vanity by Candlelight Master followed by "St. Cecilia and the Angel" by Carlo Saraceni; "David" by Gian Lorenzo Bernini & "San Sebastian" by Antoniazzo Romano.

Above the strange "The Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine of Alexandria" by Lorenzo Lotto.

"Allegory of Charity" by Francesco Salviati. What is here going on?

"Pieta" by Giovan Battista Gaudi Il Baciccio (detail) followed by "Venice, View of Piazza San Marco" by Il Canaletto.

There also some nice statues

To be continued
