Contemporary Art: Handmade @ McKenzie Fine Art, New York

(Drivebycuriosity) - There is competition everywhere. Even artists have to find new ways to distinguish themselves. Tom Leaver creates his paintings with his hands. The gallery McKenzie Fine Art on New York`s Lower East Side (55 Orchard Street mckenzi) has a show with new works by this painter (through November 29, 2015).

From the press releases: "Tom Leaver creates his atmospheric and ethereal paintings using his hands directly. Wearing gloves, paint is applied through fingertip daubs and sweeps of the palm or the edge of his hand. A brush is used only to add turpentine, which partially dissolves the paint, creating visible streaks, paint runs and smudges. The image is then built up again, and the process is repeated at length until the work coalesces."

I display here my favorites from this show. As usual a very subjective selection. Let the pictures speak for themselves.

Enjoy.
