Contemporary Art: Recording Slices Of Life @ Castle Fitzjohns Gallery, New York

(Drivebycuriosity) - Contemporary art is often a mirror of every day life. You can see an example in a new show at New York`s Castle Fitzjohns Gallery (98 Orchard Street  castlefitzjohns). They exhibit news paintings by Leah Tinari. The show is called "Through the looking glass 2.0" (through March 30, 2016).

According to the press release the New York based artist "cleverly combines their style of recording normal every day slices of life, with an eye more towards the visual we are used to seeing through our phones. With Tinari's "selfie" paintings she again cleverly creates a dialogue between "selfies" and the self portrait paintings of the last few centuries that were their origin".

I like the strong colors and the powerful style. Her paintings display a lot of dynamics. Here you can see my favorites from the show, a very subjective selection as usual (prices without engagement). Let the pictures speak for themselves.

On top of this post you can see "Time is precious in the underworld" (Acrylic on canvas, 40x60) $7,500. The next painting is called "Yellow Daze" (Acrylic and Spray paint on canvas, 40x40) $6,500.

Above this paragraph follow some queens of the world of sports:

"Sanya Richards" (Acrylic on canvas, 40x40) $6,500 - an Olympic track and field World Champion;
"Hope Solo" (Acrylic on canvas, 40x40) $6,500 - an American soccer goalkeeper, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a World Cup gold medalist;
& "Serena Williams" (Acrylic on canvas, 40x40) $6,500 - No. 1 in women's singles tennis.
