Photography: Fountains Of Rome - Fountain Of Frogs @ Piazza Mincio

(Drivebycuriosity) - Rome is full of surprises. Last Sunday my wife and I discovered the Fontana delle Rane (Fountain of the Frogs) at the Piazza Mincio in the northern part of the Eternal City. The ancient fountain is surrounded by amazing buildings.

The fountain is in the center of Rome`s smallest district: Coppedè, called the fantasy district (romeing).

Coppedè, brainchild of architect Gino Coppedè (built 1913-1927), is a jumble of historic styles such as Art Nouveau, medieval, Baroque and ancient Greek all whipped together in a dramatic frenzy (romeing). Nature is the principal inspiration; daring and eccentric curved lines seek freedom from tradition, coexisting with modern sensuous ironwork. Coppedè is Rome’s answer to the Gaudì structures of Barcelona.

The houses look like fairy tale castles.
