Contemporary Art: Jenny Saville`s Ancestors @ Gagosian New York

(Drivebycuriosity) - Gagosian is a global art gallery empire. Alone in New York City they have at least 4 galleries which frequently exhibit important artists. Recently I reported about their Damien Hirst Show on 24th Street  (driveby). On the same day I saw on 21rst Street another interesting exhibition: Jenny Saville "Ancestors" (gagosian).

Jenny Saville was born in 1970 in Cambridge, England, and currently lives and works in Oxford, England. According to the press release she "transcends the boundaries of both classical figuration and modern abstraction in her depiction of the human form.....The immense canvases recall archetypes from religion and mythology, such as the pietà and the Fates" (saville). Above you can see "Vis and Ramin"  (2018, oil on canvas, 98 7/16 × 137 13/16 inches (250 × 350 cm) ).

I like this threesome which depicts power and beauty.

This looks a bit scary

wild!

Saville likes apparently Michelangelo`s Pieta

To be continued
