Contemporary Art: Jasper Johns @ Matthew Marks New York

(Drivebycuriosity) - Jasper Johns (born May 15, 1930) is an American painter, sculptor and printmaker whose work is associated with abstract expressionism, Neo-Dada, and pop art. He is well known for his depictions of the American flag and other US-related topics. Johns' works regularly sell for millions of dollars at sale and auction, including a reported $110 million sale in 2010 (wikipedia).

At Matthew Marks gallery in Chelsea I saw an exhibition with recent paintings & works on paper (matthewmarks). Johns doesn`t belong to may favorite painters, but I display here some images from the show anyway, a very subjective selection as usual.

Some of these paintings remind me of the Swiss artist Paul Klee who worked in the first half of the 20th century (paulklee).

To be continued.
