Culture: Surge Protection, Gallery Nine5, New York

New York City is not just a huge business & financial center, the metropolis also is a big center of art. There are hundreds of art galleries there, especially in the south of Manhattan.

Yesterday I visited an opening reception at gallery nine5 in New York`s fashionable Spring Street (gallerynine5). The event happened in collaboration with the New Museum Ideas Festival that is running through Saturday May 4th (ideas-city).

The gallery started an exhibition of so-called "Pop Realism". They are presenting a new body of works by New York artist Steve Ellis, called "Surge Protection" through May 31 2013  ().

They call the exhibition as a "reflection on the future of cities". I enjoyed the artist´s style, his generous use of clear and powerful colors and the photo-realistic approach. Some of his paintings sparked my fantasy. The red wine the gallery generous offered also was excellent.

I hope to come sometimes back to this place to see more inspiring pieces of modern art.
