Culture: Looking Forward To Punk Island 2017

(Drivebycuriosity) - Summer is approaching. There are so many things to look forward to. One of them is Punk Island, a free of charge rock festival on one of New York`s ubiquitous islands (punkislandnyc). My wife and I have been attending the annual event for years. The recent gigs happened on Governors Island & Staten Island, which are both just a short boat ride from Manhattan. Punk Island 2017 will be on a new place, Randall´s Island, a tiny island east of Harlem (facebook).

We always enjoyed the events. I show here some of the pics I took there.  On top of this post you can see Absinthe Rose, whose female lead singer combined her tattooed beauty with a strong rock performance.

All these events were very peaceful and friendly parties. Some let some steam off and participated at the dynamic circle runs and very dynamic group dances where the people jump into each other creating a powerful group dynamic. Others enjoyed the concerts sitting in the grass like attending a family picnic.

The bands played Rockn`Roll pure. They delivered a broad spectrum of styles, even that all focused on the rough realm of punk. You could hear pop, hardcore, brass, violines, metal, funk & much more -  the state of art in the current punk scene.

The audience was part of the show. There were lots of tattoos, colorfully designed hair and much more to see.

Enjoy!
