Movies: Afternoon Delight

(Drivebycuriosity) - What to do when a married couple has stopped having sex? The movie "Afternoon Delight" shows a potential answer (imdb). Jill Soloway, director & script writer of this film, tells an episode in the life of Rachel, who is around 40. Hoping to treat her marriage and to rekindle her sex drive she visits a strip club where she gets a lap dance by a young stripper & prostitute. Rachel develops some social interest and curiosity in the girl and invites her to stay in her home for some time, together with her husband and a toddler. This causes a lot of confusion, irritations and complications in Rachel`s social environment which is conservative jewish. "Afternoon Delight" is a tale about an intruder in a rigid world.

Soloway narrates the story with humor and sensitiveness and delivers a psychological study about a woman who is exploring herself. The film is a comedy sprinkled with sporadic sex scenes that are very descent.

The attractive Kathryn Hahn convinces as a housewife who is insecure and restrained but also a bit  curious. Juno Temple, one of Hollywood´s rising stars, plays a fresh and natural behaving houseguest who also is a challenge for her hosts.

"Afternoon Delight" is an amusing study about a woman who wants to discover new sights of herself.
