(Drivebycuriosity) - My wife and I are back from Spain where we had traveled 3 weeks. During our stay in Granada we visited the Alhambra twice. This is a huge fortress complex on a hill above Granada, which has been constructed by Muslim rulers (Arabs called Moors) from the 9th century through the 13th century (wikipedia). We had purchased 2 tickets in advance (online), one for a night visit and another one for a day visit, which gave us timed access to Alhambra`s main attraction, the Nasrid Palace ( Palacios Nazaríes ).
Especially the night visit offered us the spell of this place (when we focused on the palace). The Arabian architecture looked like a place out of the oriental fairy tale "One Thousand and One Nights".
The moonlight and scarce illumination, reflected by the ponds, and the gurgling of the various springs added to the magic of the place.
We admired the beauty of the Arabian architecture & artworks and got impressed by the craftsmanship of the medieval constructors.
Above you can see some examples for the delicate and intricate ornamentation of the palace.
Are still Genies (Djinns) living there?
In bright day light the Alhambra shows a different face, even though we got a rainy day.
But even though it had rained the various gardens & springs showed a magic of their own.
Visiting the Alhambra is highly recommended!
