(Drivebycuriosity) - I am fascinated by London. I visited the British metropolis several times. Each time I was amazed by the cultural live and the architecture which spreads from ancient Roman times to cutting edge 21. Century. An anthology with scifi short stories about a future London caught my eye: "London Centric: Tales of a Future London" edited by Ian Whates ( amazon).
The collections delivers a mixed harvest. Apparently the curator had asked some writers whom he knows to deliver material for the book. The majority of the authors did not care much about London`s future. There are just 2 stories fitting into the schema. In one story organized criminals transport a highly dangerous drug through the city. In another story an AI, used as a city survival system called shepherd, discovers a serial killer. I liked Neil Asher´s (the only known author in this collection) horror story about a woman who´s skin got surgical transformed which radically enhances her senses.
The rest of the 13 stories read like exercises for a writing class. Anyway, in the moment of writing the Kindle version is priced for just $5.49, an acceptable price.
