(Drivebycuriosity) - Manhattan`s Lower East Side is slowly degenerating into a party district with a legion of fast food places, smoke shops & other dives. But there are still some fine art galleries, albeit fewer than some years ago. The French/American Gallery Perrotin on Orchard Street belongs to the stalwarts. I frequently see amazing shows there.
The art dealer celebrates now the 20th anniversary of their collaboration with American artist Daniel Arsham, showing the evolution of his artistic practice over the past two decades ( perrotin). I display here my favorites of the exhibition which spreads over 2 floors, a very subjective selection as usual.
Above this paragraph you can see "Valley of the Sublime, Stubaital" (2023, Acrylic on canvas
Framed : 212.1 × 516.9 cm | 83 1/2 × 203 1/2 inch) and a detail shot. The Stubaital is an alpine valley in Tyrol, Austria, but this image might come from a parallel universe.
Arsham is apparently a fan of Star Wars. The sculptures are rafted in minerals such as blue calcite, selenite and hydrostone.
In some alternate universe the old Greek might have participated in the Star Wars
Above some of the wonderful installations.
Above some cool paintings. Obviously Arsham likes the colors blue & yellow.
