New York: Countdown For 190 Bowery - Last Impressions From A Street Art Monument

(Drivebycuriosity) - The house 190 Bowery in downtown Manhattan has been a mecca for connoisseurs of street art. The formerly Germania Bank building (constructed 1898-99  wikipedia) attracted many street artists who covered the walls with a chaotic cluster of stencils. I have reported before about this place (here  here  here ).

Last year the photographer Jay Maisel, the owner who had encouraged the art works on his walls,  sold the building to a real estate company which will convert it into a classy apartment house. Today I spotted workers, who were clearing the building - the countdown runs.

I took the chance to collect some last impressions from this monument of street art, which will be  gone soon.

Enjoy.
