Contemporary Art: Malcom Morley @ Sperone Westwater Gallery, New York

(Drivebycuriosity) - Malcom Morley seems to be obsessed with airplanes and historical military events. At least the artist created a lot of paintings about these topics.

The Sperone Westwater Gallery on New York´s Bowery has now an exhibition with works by Morley (through June 6th 2015 speronewestwater ). The show contains 15 new paintings completed between 2013 and 2015. I am not really a fan of Morley`s work,  but I find his version of pop art somewhat amusing, like a big toy shop for 10 year old boys.

                                                           Big Toy Shop?

I start this post with an installation called "Napoleon Crossing the Alps with Cannon" (2014), followed by "Trafalgar-Waterloo" (2013), which portraits Admiral Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington separated by a life-size cannon barrel rendered in low-relief.

Above and below you can a collection of Morley´s planes, partly inspired by vintage paper models.

I think his container ship is also well done.

Enjoy!
