(Drivebycuriosity) - The society is changing. The modern world is more & more open for alternative lifeforms. Anything goes. The Cooper Union (41 Cooper Square, New York http://cooper.edu/ ) has now an exhibtion called "Bring Your Own Body: Transgender Between Archives and Aesthetics” (exhibitions artnet). The institution (Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art ) runs an ambitious college focused on architecture, art or engineering and also offers a lot classes open for the public.
From the press release: "The show presents the work of contemporary transgender artists who in various ways confront and engage the past, whether mining the archives of well known sexologists like Alfred Kinsey or celebrating the pioneering work of early transgender activists". The exhibition, which runs through November 2015, display photographies, collages, books, films & installations. There also are performances.
Here some of the photographs I spotted on their walls.
Yesterday my wife and I attended the opening reception. It seemed that hip New York was there. Mostly young people, some fanciful and stylish dressed. I used the ocassion to take some photographs from the crowd and the exhibition pieces, as usual a very subjectvie selection.
Enjoy.
