(Drivebycuriosity) - The New York Academy of Art is a wonderful & prestigious institution ( 111 Franklin Street nyaa.edu). Many of their graduates become respectable artists. Sometimes they have fascinating exhibitions which are free admission. Recently I saw their show "Figurative Diaspora" (through March 4, 2018 figurative ). They exhibit works of "unofficial art" - subversive, non-state sanctioned art - created by Soviet artists and five contemporary Chinese artists. I show here my favorites from the exhibition, a very subjective selection as usual.
Above you can see "AntiChrist (Glory to God) by Komar and Melamid (oil and canvas) followed by Alexander Kosolapov`s "Perseus (The Assination of Trotzky by Stalin) (oil on canvas).
Above Lu Liang`s "Huatugo" (oil on canvas).
Above a painting by Oleg Vassiliev followed by Yu Hong`s "Resolution" (acrylic on canvas)
Above"Erik Bulatov - Mayakovsky Square" by Oleg Vassiliev (on on canvas); a painting by Xie Dongming; "Anti-Messiah" by Vitaly Komar (oil and tempera on canvas) & Erik Bulatov`s "Red Horizon" (colored pencil on paper).
Stay tuned.
