(Drivebycuriosity) - Dorothea Tanning opened the doors to our subconscious and to alternate worlds. The late American artist created fascinating surrealist paintings.
I was happy to see a large exhibition of her work at the Tate Modern in London (tate.org). The curators presented about 100 works from Tanning`s seven-decade career – from enigmatic paintings to uncanny sculptures. I present her my favorites of the show, a very subjective selection as usual.
Above you can see Birthday, her self-portrait from 1942, Where does the open door lead?
Above another Self-Portrait, this time from 1944. Did she travel to alternate universe?
Above "The Guest Room", maybe referring to her childhood phantasies.
Above the amazing Deirdre
Above Eine kleine Nachtmusik.
Above The Magic Flower Game.
Above Family Portrait.
Above The Philosophers followed by Daughters & Notes for an Apocalypse
Above Door followed by Dog of Cytheral, Insomnias, On Avolon & Pour Gustavé Ador.
Stay tuned.
