Contemporary Art: Powder & Water @ Martos Gallery New York

(Drivebycuriosity) - Contemporary Art is full of surprises. On a walk on Elizabeth Street in Manhattan`s Tribeca district I discovered an art gallery which was unknown to me: Martos Gallery ( martos).

The art dealer exhibits paintings by Christine Burgon. The show is called "Powder and Water". I love these energetic abstracts, which are all "Untitled" but based on different media. The image on the top and the following are all "acrylic on canvas".

The press release reports: "Burgon begins with three layers of gesso to provide a smooth surface against the constraints of wood or textured canvas. She then goes in with a spontaneous layer of acrylic to slicken her base and reduce the absorptive nature of gesso. From here, issues of color and form begin to manifest. Warmth and coolness are coordinated by Burgon over time, with compositions that unfold over months and years" ( press ).

Above this paragraph again "acrylic on canvas" followed by "acrylic & charcoal on canvas".

Above you can see "acrylic on canvas" followed by two times "acrylic on board" & "acrylic & charcoal on canvas".

To be continued.
