(Drivebycuriosity) - Hollywood´s writers are striking ( hollywoodreporter). The walkout will reduce the number of coming TV & streaming shows for a while. It may sound counterintuitive, but the consumers of TV & streaming shows might even benefit from the strike.
Netflix, Prime & and other media corporations are global. They purchase and order already a lot shows from abroad. Recently I enjoyed the exciting Austrian/German crime-mystery "Pagan Peak" (pagan ). I also loved "Babylon Berlin" & "Biohackers" ( Babylon biohackers), the Belgian "Undercover" (imdb ), the Danish "Borgen" (imdb ) and many more foreign shows. And there are so many brilliant British, Scandinavian, French, Italian and Asian productions. And the unforgettable Korean thriller "Squid Game" (imdb ).
Netflix & Co. might be forced to purchase & finance even more foreign productions. Importing more shows from abroad would hike the diversity and the average quality of TV & streaming shows. American media consumers will get the chance to expand their horizon. They might even get used to subtitles and discover foreign flavors.
Rising sales on the US market will give foreign producers larger budgets. They can invest more money into story development, cinematography, post production & they can hire more acting talents. So Hollywood´s writer strike will lift the quality of TV & streaming productions world wide.
I am looking forward to more shows like "Squid Games" & "Babylon Berlin"!
