Science Fiction: Heavy Weather By Bruce Sterling

(Drivebycuriosity) - There is a lot ado about climate change & global warming. Dire predictions rule the  headlines. Perfect material for writers of dystopian Science Fiction. Bruce Sterling, who belongs to the founders of the Cyperpunk movement, published his novel "Heavy Weather" in the year 1994 (amazon ).

The plot is set in Texas in the year 2031. It`s very hot and water is scarce. Climate change causes wild thunderstorms with torrent rains (dystopia doesn`t need logic) and there are a lot freaky tornadoes.  A group of punks, living in tents, are following & exploring g the twisters, with the help of advanced high tech.

The descriptions of the mega tornadoes - stretched over so many pages - are amazing & breath taking. Sterling has really the talent for describing apocalyptic scenarios.

I don`t care about the ridiculous characters & dialogs, too much cyberpunk for my taste. But there is an interesting advanced technology (including gene spliced goats) and there are elaborately described sex scenes, very unusual for the timid Science Fiction genre. All together an acceptable holiday read but not more.
