(Drivebycuriosity) - People have different tastes and passions. The book "Some Boys" by Michael Davidson is the confession of a pedophile. The author tells in episodes (or short stories) about some boys he preyed on. His victims were males in the age between 12 and 16. Usually very poor kids, often living on the street, maybe orphans.
Legally there is no question: He is the criminal and the boys are his victims. The stories are set in the 1950, today he would risk many horrible years in prison, because the other inmates hate pedophiles.
But besides the law it isn`t clear who was really the predator and who the prey. His victims were apparently hookers and already spoiled. Many made explicit passes on him. Approaching him was a means to collect some easy money, some also hoped to get adopted and to escape their misery.
Davidson is no Oscar Wilde and no Nabokov. According to his descriptions nothing happened what would have caused an infection. Apparently he stayed healthy and he didn`t suffer the fate of Pier Pasolini or the German fashion designer Rudolph Moshammer who both got killed by male hookers. Maybe everything is just fiction and happened in his fantasy.
Besides his "romances" Davidson described many locations where he had worked as foreign corespondent in the 1950s. His short descriptions of Catania (Sicily), Naples (Napoli), Marrakesh and other places show his qualities as a writer. Especially the transformation of Bali, a peaceful Hindu island and part of Indonesia, which got under the control of Islamist socialism, is well described.
