Culture: Old European Masters & More @ Museo Nacional de San Carlos Mexico City

(Drivebycuriosity) - Mexico City has a legion of museums, you can see them almost at every corner. Many of them are small specialized collections. On Wednesday my wife and I visited the Museo Nacional de San Carlos, which focuses on Old European Masters, but also has other exhibitions (mnsancarlos).

Above a detail of "The wedding of Sara & Tobias" by Giovanni Biliverti (ca. 1622)

Above you can see "Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple" by Matias de Arteaga y Alforo (17th century). Strange, but beautiful.

"Christ in Limbo" by Gillis Mostaert (16th century). Looks like an post-apocalyptic phantasy.

Above "Saint Blase" by Martin Bernat (late 15th century)-followed by an altar painting.

"The Holy Family" by a member of the circle de Girolama Francesoc Maria Mazzola.Il Parmigianimo (1503-1540).

The "Portrait of a Boy" looks like a Lucas Cranach painting but is creation by Piero di Cosimo (16th century). "Odalisca" is a painting by Henri Decaisne.

As you can see they also exhibit some modern photographies.

I saw the skeptic girl on a poster @ the museum`s entrance. They use this image to advertise for their permanent exhibition. Unfortunately this image, apparently a modern photography, was not there as I got told. That´s Mexico.

To be continued
