Photography: The Murals Of Mexico City

(Drivebycuriosity) - Mexicans love murals. So Mexico City has a lot of them. Many are political propaganda, praising the rise of socialism but some are interesting & funny. I display here a small selection of the pics I took during my recent visit of the metropolis. I found the mural above, created by Jorge González Carmena (1950), in an office building on  Paseo de la Reforma close to the Chapultepec metro station. It looks like an image out of a Star Wars Movie.

The Palacio De Bellas Artes has lots of murals. The girl above is admiring "Liberación o La humanidad se libera de la miseria" (1941) by Jorge González Camarena. Below that you can see "Catarsis" ( 1934 ) by Jose Clemente Orozco.

I found there also 2 murals by David Alfaro Siqueiros:  "Nueva democracia" & "Tormento de Cuauhtémoc y Apoteosis de Cuauhtémoc"

Above a detail of Jorge González Camarena`s "Liberación o La humanidad se libera de la miseria" (1941).

Above "El hombre controlador del universo (Man at the Crossroads)" (1934) by Diego Rivera, celebrating the rise of communism (you can see Lenin, Marx & Trotsky).

The San Ildefonso College has some murals by José Clemente Orozco. Above details from "Maternidad" & "Mujeres".

The impressive National Museum of Anthropology also got beautified by some murals, maybe by Jorge González Camarena.

This mural refers to Mexico´s history.

The Museo Nacional De Arte has some Art Deco murals, "Jugendstil" in German.

Even the subway stations & entrances have impressive murals.

To be continued
