Science Fiction: Explorations - Through The Wormhole

(Drivebycuriosity) - Traveling through space is a fascinating idea. Unfortunately even the next star is light years away and flying to other galaxies would need billions of years. But science fiction authors found a solution: Wormholes. These imagined phenomena are based on the idea that space is not linear as it seems but folded. In this case travelers might use a short cut between the 2 sides of the fold.  The idea is very speculative and gives authors unlimited possibilities. It seems this topic is as unlimited as space.

I just finished reading the anthology  " Explorations: Though The Wormhole" edited & curated by Ralph Kern (amazon). The book collects 14 stories by different authors around wormholes. The writers play with many topics: Is the wormhole stable or does it suddenly disappear, taking the travelers with it? Is the phenomenon reliable or does it swallow those who enter it? Where does it lead? What happens inside? Are wormholes used by aliens who might attack us? What are the economic consequences and more.

The collection does not have prime authors and non of the stories has a chance for an Hugo or Nebula award. There is also a bias to military science fictions, there are too many soldier episodes for my taste, but I got I compensated by some entertaining stories with  fresh & fascinating ideas. I especially liked "The Challenge" by Ralph Kern; "Here, Then, Forever" by Chris Guillory; "The Aeon Incident" by Richard Fox & "Anathema" by Jacob Cooper. I also enjoyed "Through glassy eyes" by PP Corcoran even though the story has a different topic. Here a high-tech company sells implants which are integrated into the brain and allow direct access to digital networks. How might this end?

In the moment of writing the Kindle version cost just 99 Cents.
