(Drivebycuriosity) - Rome is a treasure chamber full of art. Over many
centuries the eternal city amassed amazing architecture, paintings &
sculptures. The magnificent churches, which are spread all over the
city, are part of this treasure. They are the testimony that the city
has been the capital of powerful religious leaders, the popes, for 2000
years. I plan to visit any church I will pass during my visit of Rome.
The district Travestere, west of the river, has an amazing church building, the 12th-century Basilica Di Santa Maria in Trastevere. As we arrived the local bishop was celebrating a mass, apparently dedicated to the wars in Middle East. The priest was constantly addressing his audience. I don´t understand Italian but I was impressed by sonorous voice of the priest which reminded of the Italian songwriter Fabrizio De André.
