(Drivebycuriosity) - My wife and I are continuing our exploration of Rome. Because our hotel is in a suburb west of the River, we are focusing on the western part of Italy`s capital.
On Wednesday we walked up onto one of Rome´s many hills (the metropolis has more than the legendary seven) short behind the hotel. On top of this hill is a piece of green land, the Villa Doria Pamphilj. From there we got a nice view onto the nearby Vatican. The park includes a mansion which looks like a baroque castle with a nicely designed garden.
The park includes a wall in classical Roman style with some funny figurines.
From the park we went to the neighborhood Trastevere, mostly a labyrinth of medieval alleys and places, too touristy for my taste. But there is a amazing church, the 12th-century Basilica Di Santa Maria in Trastevere, where we happened to attend a mass celebrated by the local bishop.
On our walk back we had another nice glance onto the St. peter´s basilica.
To be continued.
