(Drivebycuriosity) - A murder is a murder, or isn`t it? By law a murder is a extreme crime which is severely punished. But are there excuses?
In the novel "The Lemur" by Benjamin Black a man is murdered ( amazon). The victim is a creepy person who like to sniff into other people lives. A man who wanted to discover the secrets of others and wanted to use them against them. This man who wanted to blackmail and to destroy what ever his victims have accomplished. Are his victims defenseless? Anyway, someone got rid of him.
The Lemur is partly a whodunit story like an Agatha Christie`s novel but also a tale about family, marriage issues and wealth. The plot - set in contemporary Manhattan - benefits from Black`s elegant style and his elaborate and often funny descriptions of persons, environments & situations. As a bonus the author sprinkled some erotics on the plot.
Benjamin Black is the pen name of the Irish writer John Banville. I loved his novels "Kepler" and "Wolf on a String" (here my reviews Kepler & wolf ) and enjoyed the books of Black`s Quirke series, set in Ireland in the 1950s, as well. I plan to read more by Black/Banville.
