Photography: Tidbits From The Paul G. Allen Collection @ Christie`s New York

(Drivebycuriosity) - It`s November again. Time for Manhattan`s big fall auctions. Christie`s goes ahead by auctioning the amazing Paul G. Allen Collection (christies).

The press release tells us: "The collection of philanthropist Paul G. Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, includes more than 150 masterpieces spanning 500 years of art history. Valued in excess of $1 billion, The Paul G. Allen Collection is poised to be the largest and most exceptional art auction in history"

The show was a bit too eclectic for my taste even though I loved the displayed art works and was glad that I could see them. I am grateful to Christie´s that I could spot the show for free and not minded me taking photos.

I was overwhelmed by quality & quantity. I don´t have the energy to display the gargantuan show here and display here just some personal favorites, a very subjective selection. Apologies.

Above this paragraph you can see JAN BRUEGHEL THE YOUNGER´s (ANTWERP 1601-1678) The five senses (at least three of them).

Above follow GEORGES SEURAT`s  (1859-1891) Les Poseuses, Ensemble (Petite version); PAUL SIGNAC`s (1863-1935) Concarneau, calme du matin (Opus no. 219, larghetto) (Estimate USD 28,000,000 – USD 35,000,000); JOHN SINGER SARGENT`s (1856-1925) The Façade of La Salute, Venice & JOSEPH MALLORD WILLIAM TURNER`s (LONDON 1775-1851) Depositing of John Bellini’s Three Pictures in La Chiesa Redentore, Venice (Estimate: USD 28,000,000 – USD 35,000,000)

Above you can see ANDREW WYETH`s (1917-2009)
Day Dream

The visitors above admire EDWARD HOPPER`s  (1882-1967) The Lily Apartments. There are also two mountain paintings by LAWREN STEWART HARRIS (1885-1970).

I was happy to spot some of my favorite artists. Above 2 abstracts by Gerhard Richter followed by one of Mark Tansey`s painting "Bridge Over the Cartesian Gap" (Estimate USD 3,000,000 – USD 5,000,000). The sculpture in front of the Richter is BARBARA HEPWORTH`s (1903-1975) Elegy III.

Alex Katz is another favorite of mine. Meet his "Eric and Anni"

ERIC FISCHL`s (B. 1948) Bedroom Scene #6 (Surviving the Fall Meant Using You for Handholds). Yes, he likes jokes

Above FRANCIS BACON`s (1909-1992)
Three Studies for Self-Portrait (Estimate
USD 25,000,000 – USD 35,000,000) and his lover LUCIAN FREUD´s (1922-2011) Large Interior, W11 (after Watteau)

Above David Hockney`s The Conservation. Did David portrait his lovers?

JOHN MEYER (B. 1942) may not belong to the most famous artists. But I like his "Waterberg Wanderings" anyway.

Last but not least: ED RUSCHA`s (B. 1937) Bamboo Pole

Only museums in the caliber of New York`s Metropolitan or Madrid`s Prado can keep up with this shop. And admission is free. Prizeless!

To be continued
