(Drivebycuriosity) - Gentrification never sleeps. New York`s art scene is moving & developing all the time. Art galleries are now discovering Manhattan´s Chinatown. Suddenly new art places pop up in before neglected areas. These galleries are not quite as big as the Chelsea stalwarts, but often I spot exquisite shows there.
Lyles & King on Catherine & Henry Street has frequently interesting shows, often two side-by-side. I already reported about some of them (here here here ). The art dealer has a now an exhibition with works by Jessie Makinson. The show is called "Bad Sleeper" ( lylesandking). The painting cover the walls, like wall paper. It`s therefore difficult to take pictures. I made a lot shots there which I present here.
This post starts with "The Kings Limpet" (2023, Oil on canvas, 47 1/4 x 78 3/4 inches, 120 x 200 cm) and some detail shots.
Above this paragraph follow "Popular fluff" (2023, Oil and pigment on canvas, 82 5/8 x 129 7/8 inches, 200 x 330 cm) and some detail shots.
Above you can see "Tiny pyre" (2023, Oil on canvas, 80 3/4 x 65 inches).
To be continued
