Contemporary Art: A Visit @ Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna Rome

(Drivebycuriosity) - Rome has countless historical gems. But the eternal city is also modern and offers some contemporary art shows. Last Sunday we visited the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna.

The exhibition focuses on modern Italian artists, but they have also some interesting international art work. Because it was the first Sunday in the month admission was free but this also had the disadvantage that the place was crowded. I show here some of my favorites, a very subjective selection as usual.

There are some spectacular murals, including "Diana di Efeso e gli schiavi” and “La Gorgone e glie eroi” (detail) both by Giulio Aristide Sartorioboth.

They have more nudes of course: “Irene” by Ignacio Zuloaga followed by "Soltudine" by Mario Soroni.

I also enjoyed "Grande Rosso" by Alberto Burri and “Compendio della storia universale” by the German surrealist Max Ernst.

They have of course an Andy Warhol. Above you can see his "Hammer and Sickle"-

Above the fascinating  “Spaglia duro su spine d`acacia” by Giuseppe Penone.

These people are inspecting “Le déjeuner sur l´herbe” by Alain Jacquet.

The “Self-portrait suspended I” by Sam Taylor-Wood looks like a scene from a science fiction movie.

Isn`t she pretty? “Psiche svenuta” by Pietro Tenerani.

To be continued
