(Drivebycuriosity) - Sex sells, especially in the market for art it seems. At David Zwirner in Chelsea, New York, I saw three exhibitions which are all more or less related with sex and contain even some very explicit images (davidzwirner). Beware, NSFW!
The art dealer displayed paintings by Alice Neel. The show war called "Freedom" (freedom). According to the press release Neel was one of the foremost American figurative painters of the twentieth century.
The exhibition focused primarily on Neel's portrayal of the nude figure
and the ways in which the artist resolutely challenged traditional
perceptions of sexuality, motherhood, and beauty.
Parallel they ran a group exhibition, called "The Young and Evil" (young-and-evil). According to the press release the represented group of artists and writers looked away from abstraction toward older sources and models—classical and archaic forms of figuration and Renaissance techniques.
These images would expel me from Facebook. Beware of censorship!
They also showed drawings by Robert Crumb: "Mind Fucks, Kultur Klashes, Pulp Fiction & Pulp Fact" (drawing).
Stay tuned.
