(Drivebycuriosity)
- It`s November again and the world`s largest auction houses have their
annual huge fall auctions in Manhattan. This post focuses on 20th Century Art @ Christie`s ( christies).
Quality & Quantity of the displayed art works were overwhelming and admission was free. I display here just my favorites, a very subjective selection as usual.
Above this paragraph you can see Rene Magritte`s "L’empire des lumières". Pure magic!
Mark Rothko`s "Untitled (Yellow, Orange, Yellow, Light Orange)" is an invitation to meditate.
Francis Bacon was obsessed with power & violence. His "Figure in Movement" turned it in beauty.
I like Andrew Wyeth´s powerful paintings. Above his "Spring Fed".
Andy Warhol was a style icon. Above his "Self-Portrait" from 1967.
Fairy tales can be erotic. Franz von Stuck`s "Quellnymphe von Faunen belauscht" (Well Nymph lurked by fauns)
Tamara de Lempicka`s Lolita called "Fillette en rose "
Last but not least one of Paul Devaux`s erotic & surreal compositions: "La ville oubliée"
To be continued
