(Drivebycuriosity) - It`s November again and the world`s largest auction houses have their annual huge fall auctions in Manhattan. This post focuses on Impressionists & Modern Art @ Christie`s. Quality & Quantity of the displayed art works was overwhelming and admission is free. I display here just my favorites, a very subjective selection as usual.
On top of this post you can see Bernard Buffet`s
“Venise, le Pont du Rialto” (painted 1960) followed by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema´s "An Apodyterium" and a detail shot (1886).
Above the wonderful voodoo spectacle by Paul Ranson: "Temple de vaudou ou La charmeuse de serpent".
This romantic fairy tale scene was created by Henry Meynell Rheam, called "The Sleeping Beauty" (1899)
Pablo Picasso was blessed with a long live and an enormous productivity. Whenever I see one of the big auction shows I notice tons of Picasso ceramics and sheer countless drawings & sketches by the master, besides the myriads of his painting. Above his funny "Au Quartier Latin, Le Conférencier".
Bipartición
Above another funny image: “Bipartición de un sabio pensador” by Alfredo Castaneda.
Camille Bombois` "Ancient Cloître et monastère de Decize" also caught my eyes.
What`s going on "Among the Trees" by Max Weber?
Above a cutie by Pierre-August Renoir: "Buste de june fille nue"
There were more beauties of course. Above Jean Metzinger`s: "Nu Couché" & "Cariatide" (detail).
... and by Jean-Pierre Cassigneul: “La Brasserie” (plus detail) & "La Parisienne".
No art auction without nudes. Above you can see
"Standing Nude with Straw Hat, Cape Cod" by George Grosz.
followed by Raphael Delorme`s "Amazones"
To be continued
