(Drivebycuriosity) - Emily Fisher Landau was not only a beautiful woman, she also was a muse and an inspiring art collector ( sothebys). On top of this post you can see her portrait by Any Warhol, one of her friends and proteges.
This week Sotheby´s auctioned her collection, containing a lot top stars of the art world (the catalog has 182 positions sothebys). As usual the auction house displayed the collection as part of their huge galleries - and the entrance was free. I display here my favorites, a very subjective selection as usual.
Above this paragraph follow 2 works by Mark Tansey, who`s surreal compositions always entertain and impress me: "Installing the Lens" & "Triumph over Mastery, II".
The collection contained more "Warhols" of course. Above you can see his "Self Portrait" followed by "The Shadow".
Above Ross Bleckner`s "Galaxie with Birds" followed by Susan Rothenberg`s "Blue Chair" & James Rosenquist`s "Enter".
Cy Twombly`s "Untitled" looks like chalk on a school board, but it is actually "oil-based house paint and wax crayon on canvas".
Above Ed Ruscha`s “Uphill Driver”. Looks challenging.
and she owned also this Picasso: "Femme à la montre" (1932). Estimate in excess of $120 million.
To be continued
