Traveling: Visiting St. Thomas, American Virgin Islands

(Drivebycuriosity) - Last saturday my wife and I arrived on St. Thomas. This island belongs to the American Virgin Islands and is part of the Caribbean. We left New York City in winter (below 20F/minus 5C) and arrived - after 7 hours travel (via Atlanta) - in summer (77F/25C).

I really love the climate here. It is not as hot and steamy I know from other tropical places like Thailand, Singapore and Bali (Indonesia). It has less humidity and the climate is comparable to a very nice late May day in Germany. In the moment of writing the sky is blue with shattered clouds. Yesterday we had a quick downpour (maybe 5 minutes), otherwise it stayed dry.

St. Thomas is small, just 31 sqare miles, but beautiful (wikipedia). Our hotel, the Best Western Pus Emerald Beach Resort, has an own beach, directly below under our balcony, which belongs to one of the plenty bays of the island. I enjoy the tropical vegetation with lots of blossoms. I didn´t see many birds so far, but an Iguanidae who strolled in a park in the town center.

Charlotte Amalie, the largest town there and the capital, has a fascinating architecture as you can see above.
