Contemporary Art: Maria Lassnig @ Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona

 

(Drivebycuriosity) - I am a connoisseur of contemporary art. There is so much discover. During my resent visit in Barcelona I came across a fascinating exhibition of works by Maria Lassnig, who had been unknown to me (through 31 May 2015 fundaciotapies).

The Austrian artist (1919-2014) is regarded as one of the most important contemporary painters and can be seen as a pioneer in many areas of art today. According to Wikipedia she is known for her painted self-portraits and her theory of "body awareness" (wikipedia).

I enjoyed her humor, her goofiness and aplomb. Here you can see my favorites from this exhibition. On the top you can see her "Du oder Ich/You or Me",  2005, Oil on canvas.
