Contemporary Art: The Beauty Of Raw Power - Richard Serra @ Gagosian, New York

(Drivebycuriosity) - I am fascinated by Richard Serra, one of the most important contemporary artists (wikipedia). I indulge into his often massive works which display the sheer beauty of raw power.

Gagosian, one of the leading galleries of the world, has now a Serra exhibition @ 2 locations: 522 West 21st Street & 555 West 24th Street, both in New York´s classy Chelsea district (through July 29, 2016  gagosian. ).

At West 21st you can see the sculpture  "NJ-1" (2015, weatherproof steel, six plates, overall: 13’ 9” × 51’ 6” × 24’ 6” (4.2 × 15.7 × 7.5 m), plates: 2” (5 cm thick).

The monumental scultpture is like a labyrinth. When you walk inside you almost can get lost.

                        Every Which Way

At 24th Street you can spot more steel.

Above you can see "Every Which Way" (2015, Weatherproof steel, Sixteen slabs, overall: 11’ × 53’ 6” × 21’ (3.4 m × 16.3 m × 6.4 m).

I enjoy the delicate and surprisingly colorful patterns.

Enjoy!
