Contemporary Art: Allegorical Stories @ George Billis Gallery New York

(Drivebycuriosity) -Contemporary art is full of surprises. At my recent visit of Manhattan´s art district Chelsea I spotted an interesting collection of surrealist paintings. George Billis Gallery exhibits works by Tim Vermeulen (georgebillis ). The artist states: "My paintings are attempts to articulate in visual form, through symbolic and allegorical stories, a chaotic web of emotions and ideas that is at once deeply personal and about our universal condition. My work is part of a process of wrestling for self-discovery through autobiographical narratives, in many cases involving self-portraiture" ( vermeulen ).

Above you can see Vermeulen`s "Communing II" (oil on panel, 2018, 29" x 35"). Does this man command the birds swarm?

Above his "Inferno" (oil on panel, 10.5x13.5"). Did the man with the backpack start it? And the dark clouds in the right corner signal more trouble.

Doese this house belong to the tree climber?

Above "Murmuration" (oil on panel, 2018, 12.5" x 15.5"). Does this man worship a nation of bees?

Above "Wanderer II" (oil on panel, 2018, 15.5" x 19.5"). He seems to be lost.

Trapped In A Maze

Above "Meditation III" (oil on panel, 30.5x36.5"). It looks like this man is trapped in a maze.

Another man trapped in a maze?

Climate change?

They also display some photorealistic paintings by Charlie Meckel , all oil on canvas (meckel).

As a bonus "The Graces" by Oskar Rabenda (oil on canvas).

To be continued
