Contemporary Art: Everybody Loves Andy Warhol

(Drivebycuriosity) - Andy Warhol is back in New York. Not in person of course, but Manhattan´s  Whitney Museum of American Art has a huge Andy Warhol retrospective which draws quite a crowd (through end of March 2019   whitney). It seems everybody loves Andy.

I really enjoyed to revisit the "Warhol" I already saw in Chicago, Berlin Los Angeles and other places and to discover works which were new to me.

It looks like that other spectators were fascinated as well.

These maybe Warhol`s - or Mao`s? - youngest admirers.

A wall with portraits by the master belongs to the highlights of the exhibition.

They showed of course Warhol`s famous Campbell soup cans.

I also like the cow & flowers wall.

                                                        God Of Style

Obviously Warhol cared more about coolness & style than about craftmanship. But he was the god of style.

Above more stylish "Warhols".

It is an open question which of these images were completely created by Warhol himself and which parts are produced by his "factory", a group of talented artists who worked with the great master. Ben Thompson describes in his book "The Supermodel And The Brillo Box" the complex issue of authentication of "Warhols" by the "Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board", which accepted sometimes work, which is not the work by Andy Warhol, but which is signed, dedicated and dated by him (driveby).

To be continued
