(Drivebycuriosity) - Stalkers live outside the reality. The stalker thriller "Greta", which is now running in US cinema theaters, shows a drastic example (imdb). A young woman finds a handbag in the New York subway. She brings the item to the owner which starts an unpleasant relationship (this is a spoiler free blog. you can find a synopsis here wikipedia).
The movie is build around Isabelle Huppert. The French actress deploys the full spectrum of her talents, changing from being charming & charismatic to being obsessed, erratic, vicious & savage - the beauty and the beast in one person. It is fascinating that an actress who is born in the early 1950s is still capable to carry a fascinating movie and to catch the audience in her spell. I also enjoyed Chloë Grace Moretz as the victim and a cameo by Stephen Rea.
"Greta" is modern horror cinema in the tradition of Hitchcock, claustrophobic & bloody. There are influences by Polanski`s "Repulsion", "Single, White, Female" and other classics, but director & screen writer Neil Jordan has enough own ideas to keep his audience on the edge.
