Art Market: Tidbits From 21st Century Fall Auction @ Christie`s New York

(Drivebycuriosity) - The long waiting had an end. My wife and I started to visit New York`s big auction houses again, thanks to the mRNA vaccines which reduced the Covid-19 infection risk considerably. We began with Christie´s in Manhattan´s midtown. They have galleries for their Marquee week, separated in 21st Century Evening Sale, the 20th Century Evening Sale and the Post War & Contemporary Art day Sale (christies ). They also show an impressive amount of impressionists, modern art works and some surreal paintings.

Apparently they are mixing their auctions, their 21st Century auction includes older works, like some Basquiats, and the Contemporary Art Sales include paintings from this century.

This post focuses on the cutting edge 21st century art. The abundance of displayed art works is so overwhelming so I can display just some tidbits here. On top of this post you can see Kenny Scharf`s sculpture "Coney" (executed in 2011). Above this paragraph follow Karin Mamma Andersson`s "Med läsning öd ej iden borrt, Vårt kön så föga det behöver, Och skall du läsa, gör det kort, At såsen ej må fräsa öfver / Readers" (2002); Matthew Wong`s "Adam and Eve" (2016 ) & George Condo`s "Linear Connection" (2010 ).

Above you can see Harold Ancart`s "Untitled" (2016 ) followed by Lisa Yuskavage´s "Mardi Gras Dude" (2014) ; Genieve Figgis`"Victoria and Albert (The Royal Family) (After Franz Xaver Winterhalter)" (2017 ) & Issy Wood`s "Miami/ from shame to grace" (oil on velvet, 2018).

Above you can see Danielle Orchard`s "Two Bathers" (2021); Daniel Richter`s "Bande on the Run" (2009); Takashi Murakami`s "Playful and Carefree" (2010 ) & Yan Pei-Ming´s "Grand Timonier Rouge II" (2000).

There are also some interesting digital art works . Above images from the installation "Arcades" by Arch Hades (b. 1992); Andrés Reisinger (b. 1990) & RAC (b. 1985). Non-fungible token; single-channel video with sound, 9 minutes and 48 seconds in length
Minted on 26 October 2021. This work is unique.
