Art Market: Tidbits From Contemporary Art Fall Auction @ Sotheby`s New York

(Drivebycuriosity) -  It`s fall again, the time for New York`s huge autumn art auctions. After last year`s pandemic break the global auction houses are back with new shows. My wife and I went to Christie´s (my reports are here and here) and then to Sotheby´s

I already reported about their amazing "Macklowe Collection" ( driveby). This post focuses on Sotheby´s Contemporary Art selection (sothebys). On the top you can see Eric Fischl`s “Best Western” (oil on canvas, 1983). The woman takes care of Ugo Rondinone`s “If There Were Anywhere But Desert, Saturday” (painted fiberglass with wig, clothing and glitter, 2002).

My favorite in this show is
Tomás Sánchez with two amazing meditative paintings. Above his  “Contemplador del contemplador” (acrylic on canvas, 1996).

The second painting is called “Encuentro con el meditador de la laguna” (acrylic on canvas, 1992).

Above two masterpieces by the amazing Cecily Brown. Are they abstract paintings or do they show an orgy? "Untitled (Trapeze)" (1997 ) & "Spree" (1999). Both are oil on canvas.

I also like Jacobo Borges`"
Llegando de...  “ (photo transfer and mixed media on canvas” (1973).

Helen Frankenthaler`s "Dream Decision" is another eye-catcher (acrylic on canvas, 1976).

Be careful, please don`t step on
Danh Vô "Gustav's Wing" (cast bronze, in 6 parts, 2013).

This visitor studies Victor Vasarely`s "Maamor III" (acrylic on canvas, 1969). Then follows Hilary Pecis`"Sculpture Court" (acrylic on canvas, 2017).

Above you can see Javier Marín`s “Mujer Piedra II” clay from Zacatecas and Oaxaca with clay slip on metal artist's base, height: 41 in104 cm, 1998) followed by
Genieve Figgis` “Lady on a Horse” (acrylic on canvas, 2014); Lisa Yuskavage`s "Kathy" (oil on linen 2002); James Rosenquist`s "Study for Mute Transformation" (oil on canvas mounted to panel, 1986) & Ewa Juszkiewicz "Untitled (Bones)" (oil on canvas, 2018).
