Art Market: Tidbits From "The Now" @ Sotheby`s New York

(Drivebycuriosity) -  It`s fall again, season for New York`s huge autumn art auctions. After last year`s pandemic break the global auction houses are back with new shows. My wife and I went to Sotheby´s. The firm displays works earmarked for different auctions, including "Macklowe Collection", American Art, Modern & Contemporary Art ( sothebys). I already reported about their amazing "Macklowe Collection" ( driveby).

This post focuses on "The Now" (sothebys. ). The auction house concentrated art "executed in the last 20 years". On top of this post you can see Thomas Schütte`s sculpture "Großer Geist Nr. 1" (polished bronze, executed in 2014) & Yoshitomo Nara`s "Nice to See You Again" (acrylic on canvas, 1996).

Flora Yukhnovich`s wall filling "It’s Better Down Where It’s Wetter" (oil on canvas, 2018) alone is worth the visit.

Lukas Duwenhögger`s elegant  "Rezalet (Impertinence)" (oil on canvas, 1998) is an eye catcher as well.

I was also amazed by Hernan Bas`wonderful "Night Flight or Midnight Migration, or My Merry Way" (acrylic on canvas, 2008).

No auction without George Condo. Above you can see his "Lion Man" (acrylic, charcoal, and pastel on linen, 2012).

Christina Quarles belongs to the rising starts in the art world. Above her "Common Ground (Worlds Apart, Miles Away)"  (acrylic on canvas, 2016).

This visitor is studying Mark Bradford`s "Method Man" (mixed media on canvas, 2004).

Last but not least: "
Portrait of Maya #10" by Mickalene Thomas (rhinestones and acrylic on canvas mounted on wood panel, 2017).

To be continued
