(Drivebycuriosity) - I like abstract art. In the recent 100 years or so many artists created abstract paintings and seeded many trends. Many are following them, creating new variations. Today a lot of abstract paintings look similar, that makes it so difficult for contemporary artists to find their own way and for viewers to distinguish them.
David Mellen belongs to those artists who are unique (dsmstudio 1stdibs ). He has a very special style. I always can recognize a "Mellen" when I spot it.
This week I had the pleasure to see an exhibition with new works by him. Ivy Brown Gallery on 675 Hudson Street in Manhattan displayes eight large paintings by Mellen ( ivybrowngallery). The exhibition is called "Heart Worn Thin".
This post displays tasters from the show. Unfortunately the images here are way too small to show the magic of these wall-filling paintings. If you have time and are near New York, get there, the show runs through December 21, 2021 (admission by appointment only).
Enjoy!
