(Drivebycuriosity) - Finally my wife and I are visiting New York`s big auction houses again, thanks to the mRNA vaccines which reduced the Covid-19 infection risk considerably. We began with Christie´s in Manhattan´s midtown. They have galleries for their Marquee week, separated in 21st Century Evening Sale, the 20th Century Evening Sale and the Post War & Contemporary Art day Sale (christies ). They also show an impressive amount of impressionists, modern art works and some surreal paintings.
I already posted about the works from 21st century (here ). This post shows some tidbits from their Postwar & Contemporary Art selection. The visitor above is admiring Jeff Koon`s "Gazing Ball (Titian Mars, Venus, and Cupid)".
The cult around Jean-Michel Basquiat is still blooming. Above Andy Warhol´s portrait of the superstar followed by the 2 of his works: "Guilt of Gold Teeth" & "Flash in Naples".
I am a fan of Peter Doig and was happy to see his wall filling painting: "Swamped".
David Salle also belongs to my favorites. Above his huge: "Pavane" and a detail of it.
Aren`t they cute? Yoshima Nara`s "Pilgrim Heads"
Isn`t it scary? David Wojnarowicz`s "Daddy`s Ship".
More cuties: Elizabeth Peyton`s "Liam + Noel in the 70s"
Above you can see the wonderful with Balthus "Japonaise au miroir noir"; Roberto Matta`s "Black Mirror" & Hellen Frankenthaler`s amazing "Night Music".
To be continued
