Culture: Gojira @ Terminal 5, New York

(Drivebycuriosity) - Heavy Metal is the purest form of rock music. Yesterday my wife and I went to  New York´s Terminal 5 to watch a gig by Gojira. We had discovered the French band @ Chicago´s Open Air festival in July, where they played together with Rammstein, Deafheaven, Slipknot and many other bands (driveby).

Originally the band had the name Godzilla, but it seems there were copy right issues. Anyway, the original name fits well. Gojira´s music is majestic & violent but beautiful.  The French showed that they can heavy metal as well as the Scandinavian bands who seem to rule the genre. Yesterday they delivered again massive walls of sound with atmospheric & melodic elements.

Contrary to popular bands like Rammstein or Slipknot the French refrained from show effects and focused on the music. Brothers Joe Duplantier (vocals, guitars) & Mario Duplantier (drums) together with guitarist Christian Andreu & bassist Jean-Michel Labadie master their instruments virtuously and inspired the masses before the stage to crowd surfing and moshing (jumping up and down and deliberately colliding with other dancers).

I apologize for the quality of the pics.  Light show & distance in the huge venue (capacity 3,000 people) were challenging for my iPhone 6 plus.

Well done Gojira! We hope we can watch more concerts by you in the future.
