(Drivebycuriosity) - Bangkok seems to be the Rome of Buddhism. Instead of the magnificent basilikas of the Italian capital the Thai metropolis impresses with her amazing Buddhist temples, called Wat. The temple of the Emerald Buddha, also called Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram (Wat Phra Kaew), belongs to the wonders of the world.
The complex contains an image of the meditating Gautama Buddha seated in a meditative posture, made of a semi-precious green stone (jasper rather than emerald or jade), clothed in gold and about 66 centimetres (26 in) tall ( wikipedia). The image is considered the sacred palladium of Thailand. It is housed in the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) on the grounds of the Grand Palace in Bangkok.
I also love the wonderful buildings and their fancyful spires (called prang ) & roof ornaments ( chofa).
There is an amazing and complex variety of sacred constructions.
The demons & guardians are impressive
The surrounding walls are covered with murals which depict ancient legends.
To be continued
